How to Wash Grounding Sheets: An earthedin Care Guide

To wash the current earthedin fitted grounding sheet or half-sheet, first detach the grounding cord. Machine wash the fabric on a regular cycle in warm water at about 105°F (40°C), using a mild liquid detergent with a neutral pH. Then tumble dry on a gentle cycle with low heat. Keep bleach, fabric softener, whitening products, oxi-detergents, and oil-containing detergents out of the wash, and do not dry clean the sheet.

That is the same care routine for both formats. The fitted sheet replaces your usual fitted layer; the half-sheet is a strip placed over existing bedding. Their shapes differ, but the current washing instructions match. This guide turns those instructions into a wash-day sequence, with help choosing detergent, planning laundry, and handling a care mistake.

Know which item you are washing

This guide covers our cotton-and-silver fitted grounding sheet and grounding half-sheet. The instructions below reflect their current product pages and our care FAQ. They are not a universal cleaning recipe for every conductive product: a wipe-clean mat needs its own care instructions.

Keep the sewn-in label and any instructions supplied with your sheet. If an older sheet's label differs from this guide, share the label and order details with our team before using a new care setting. That lets us identify the item you actually own.

Four-step care diagram showing cord removal, a warm regular wash, mild neutral-pH liquid detergent, and gentle low-heat tumble drying.

1. Separate the sheet from its grounding accessories

Disconnect the grounding connection and detach the cord from the sheet before taking the bedding to the laundry. Set the cord and any adapter aside. The washable item in this routine is the fabric, not the accessories.

Unfold the sheet and check it before loading. Look for a torn area or a loose attachment point; if you find damage, photograph it and contact our team rather than proceeding with the usual wash-and-use routine. Keeping the accessories in a separate place also makes them easy to find when the sheet is ready to go back on the bed.

2. Choose detergent by its instructions and ingredients

Use a mild liquid detergent with a neutral pH. When choosing a bottle, look beyond a label such as “natural” or “free and clear”: those descriptions alone do not tell you its pH or whether it includes an additive excluded by the sheet's care instructions. Check the detergent maker's product information if the bottle does not give enough detail.

Leave out bleach and fabric softener, including softener combined with detergent. Also avoid whitening agents, oxi-detergents, and detergents containing oils such as lavender or coconut oil. Our care guidance excludes these products because they can damage or coat the conductive silver fibers. Choose a suitable detergent rather than adding a whitening booster to an otherwise suitable wash.

Follow the detergent's dosing directions and your washer's loading instructions. A grounding sheet does not require an improvised detergent mixture or an extra-concentrated dose. Keep the routine straightforward so you can repeat the same settings on the next laundry day.

3. Set the wash temperature separately from the cycle name

Select a regular machine-wash cycle with warm water at approximately 105°F (40°C). Check the temperature setting as well as the program name. A machine's “Bedding” or “Cotton” label is not, by itself, confirmation of the water temperature it will use; consult its controls or operating instructions.

Before adding other laundry, check whether those items can use the same temperature, detergent, and drying settings. If the rest of the load calls for bleach, softener, or a different care program, wash the grounding sheet separately. This is a useful way to keep one item's laundry needs from changing the settings intended for another.

4. Use low heat, then prepare the sheet for the bed

The current instructions allow tumble drying on a gentle cycle with low heat. Set both the cycle and heat level, rather than selecting a hotter program to finish sooner. Dry cleaning is not part of the care routine for either of these sheets.

Let the sheet dry completely before storing it or putting it back into use. Once it is dry, check the fabric and attachment point again. Fit the full sheet around the mattress, or return the half-sheet to its position over your regular bedding. For placement and reconnecting the grounding cord, use our setup and connection guide.

Adjust washing to your actual use

Silver-containing fibers can inhibit bacterial growth at the fabric surface, which is why silver is used in antibacterial textiles. Laboratory research on silver-coated cotton has demonstrated this activity in tested fabrics. Washing still has a practical role: it removes sweat, body oils, and other residue that antibacterial activity does not clean away.

Our general care FAQ recommends washing conductive bedding every 1–2 weeks. Adjust your laundry routine within that range according to use. If you use the sheet less often and it stays clean and dry, choose the longer end of the interval to reduce unnecessary washing. Wash sooner after heavy sweating, a buildup of body oils, spills, or visible soiling, even if your usual laundry day has not arrived.

The same FAQ advises waiting at least one hour after applying lotions or body oils before touching the conductive fabric. Planning that step earlier in your evening is a simple way to follow the instruction without turning bedtime into another chore. Waiting after applying a lotion does not replace cleaning the bedding.

If a care mistake happens

If the sheet went through a hotter setting, a softener wash, or a cycle with an excluded additive, note what happened. Save the detergent name, cycle, and any visible changes, then contact our team with your order details. Those specifics are more useful than a general description that the sheet “seems different.”

Avoid trying an unlisted chemical treatment or increasing the heat to reverse the mistake. We can help you review the next step for the particular sheet. A conductivity check can assess the fabric or connection under the test conditions; it does not establish the sheet's remaining lifespan or a sleep or medical result.

Frequently asked questions

Do the fitted sheet and half-sheet need different wash settings?

No. Their current earthedin care instructions use the same warm regular wash, mild neutral-pH liquid detergent, and gentle low-heat tumble drying. Detach the grounding cord before washing either format.

Can I put the grounding cord in the washer with the sheet?

No. Remove the cord before washing and set it aside with any adapter. This guide's machine-washing instructions apply to the fabric.

Can I tumble-dry my earthedin sheet?

Yes. Both current product pages allow a gentle tumble-dry cycle with low heat. Do not substitute dry cleaning for that routine.

How often should I wash it?

Use our general 1–2-week recommendation as a starting point. Lighter use with a clean, dry sheet can favor the longer end of that range; heavy sweating, body oils, spills, or soiling call for an earlier wash. Keep the product instructions and care label with your laundry notes.

Your next wash, made simpler

Save the four-step care diagram with your laundry instructions: remove the cord, choose the specified warm wash, use a suitable liquid detergent, and dry gently on low heat. If you are choosing a new format, explore our fitted sheet for a full fitted layer or our half-sheet to retain your existing bedding and add a contact strip. Both follow the care routine described here.
